School History
Carl B. Hutcherson Elementary School first opened in 1960. It was named after Carl B. Hutcherson Sr. who was the first black School Board member of Lynchburg City Schools and a prominent businessman in the city. He served on the School Board from 1952-65. Hutcherson Early Learning Center was renovated in 2013. Today, the center houses Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4 and early childhood special education programs.
