Heritage Elementary School is committed to the academic and social development of the children whom we serve. Through the combined efforts of the child, his/her parents, the school’s staff, and the community we strive to ensure that each child is respected as an individual while at the same time develops into a contributing citizen of a global society.
Heritage Elementary School serves students from kindergarten through grade five. Our curriculum is determined by the Virginia Standards of Learning and implemented by a dedicated staff of teachers and other professionals. A very active PTO/PMT and a large number of parent and community volunteers also work alongside our staff to facilitate the education of each child. In addition our Partners in Education - Bull’s Steak House, Lynchburg Fire Department Station #8, Heritage United Methodist Church, Lynchburg Education Association, McDonald’s (Timberlake Road), Texas Roadhouse, Marsh Memorial United Methodist Church and Home Depot are active in promoting the educational goals of our school.
Technology & Media
Our teachers continually strive to provide a stimulating learning environment for our children. Two twenty-five station, networked PC computer labs with Internet access and a ten station acceleration lab are available for use by our students. Our automated media library center provides students with access to a variety of books, periodicals, and other reference materials.

Academic Incentives
Students are recognized for their academic accomplishments through the A-Team and Honor Roll. We have also implemented enrichment programs for students in grades 3 through 5 to ensure their success on Standards of Learning tests.
Citizenship Incentives
In addition to recognizing academic success and promise, we seek to acknowledge students for good citizenship each week by selecting and recognizing our "Student of the Week" from each classroom. In addition, each nine weeks at our Little Pioneer PRIDE Assembly, we recognize a Good Citizen from each class who has demonstrated good citizenship.
Enrichment Activities
These include the Student Council Association (SCA), which gives our students an opportunity to learn from their participation in the democratic process, free Girls on the Run participation, and free Suzuki violin instruction on a weekly basis. Students are also able to participate in our daily WHES news broadcasting program.
Parental and Community Involvement
Our school is supported by our active partners in education. We also have a very involved PTO. In addition, our Roving Readers program encourages parents and other interested persons to visit our classrooms and read to our students. Men at Work encourages fathers and other significant men in our students’ lives to visit their classrooms, participate in activities, and have lunch with our students.
Heritage Elementary School is a unique blend of professional, student, parental, and community involvement which proves over and over again that “Together we can make good things happen”.
