What is Athletic Training?
Athletic training is a healthcare profession that specializes in prevention, identification, and treatment of athletic injuries. Athletic trainers are certified medical professionals who serve as first responders (first aid, CPR, AED, etc).
The Athletic Training Clinic
- The clinic is open to all E.C. Glass student-athletes (in season or out of season) who have been cleared in RankOne (green status)
- The clinic is where student-athletes can come for injury evaluations.
- Student-athletes can receive treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery for athletic injuries in the clinic or may be referred elsewhere when necessary.
- Ms. Armstrong and/or Ms. T can facilitate appointments with the following members of the Sports Medicine Team:
- Dr. Omar Elkhamra (Team Doctor)
OrthoVirginia - Dr. Jeffrey Lowes / Dr. Nate Daugherty
Virginia Sport & Spine Institute (VSSI)
- Dr. Omar Elkhamra (Team Doctor)
Getting Cleared/Return to Play
- If student-athletes see a doctor, they must be cleared by that doctor for the specific injury.
- Student-athletes are responsible for bringing doctor's notes to the Athletic Trainers.
- Ms. Armstrong and/or Ms. T is then responsible for clearing the student-athlete to return to sport participation.
- Athletic Trainers have more knowledge on specific demands of the student-athlete's sport and can determine when the athlete is ready to return to participation.
Sign In Procedure
- Student-athletes must make an appointment to see the AT’s. Appointments can be made at ecg-athletic-training.appointlet.com
- Once student-athletes arrive, they must sign in on the tablet (on the desk, on the left when entering) for ALL services provided by the Athletic Training Clinic.
- This includes evaluations, treatments, rehab, recovery, ice bags, tape, foam roll/stretch, etc.
Communication
- If you/your student-athlete is injured, please communicate with Ms. Armstrong, Ms. T and with your student-athlete’s coach.
- Athletic Trainers will communicate with parents/guardians and coaches via phone call and/or text.
- Athletic Trainers will also communicate with your student-athlete’s teachers when necessary (concussion, crutch / elevator use, etc).
