Staff from the U. S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), District of Columbia Office (Washington, D. C.) will be visiting Lynchburg City Schools.
The visit is part of a compliance review of whether the Division provides the same resources and educational opportunities to all students, regardless of race, in order to prepare them for post-secondary education or careers. As part of this review, OCR will provide this opportunity for high school students, parents of high school students, and other members of the community to share their experiences. OCR is particularly interested in hearing your experiences with such issues as:
- Opportunities for students to participate in higher-level classes, such as Advanced Placement, Honors, and dual enrollment classes;
- Student achievement, including test scores;
- Support for academic achievement and graduation;
- Availability of resources, including academic and career counseling; and
- Communication with parents about academic opportunities and student progress.
This is a listening session only. The Office for Civil rights has not received any complaints about these matters nor has it made any findings or decisions about these or other issues.
