Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) will host a special event on Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 6-7 p.m. at E. C. Glass High School to celebrate the division’s 2023 achievements. Featuring exclusive performances by students and presentations by LCS teachers and administrators, the evening will provide a holistic view of how LCS is accelerating excellence and innovation. LCS staff will also look ahead to next school year, sharing visions for the future of the division.
“Through innovative programming, unique career learning opportunities for students, and meaningful community engagement, LCS pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in education over the past year,” said LCS Superintendent Crystal Edwards.
Notable achievements in 2023 include the expansion of Career and Technical Education programs; the introduction of the division’s first electric school bus; innovations in elementary school security; and new opportunities for students in academics, arts, and athletics. Speakers will reflect on student and staff achievements and look ahead to the future of the division.
“I’m eager to share our visions for the future with the community. We have some exciting new strategies that will continue to shape LCS into a beacon of educational excellence starting next year,” Dr. Edwards said.
Dr. Edwards and Deputy Superintendents Reid Wodicka and Amy Pugh will present, and LCS staff members and a student will hold a panel discussion. Performing student groups will include elementary strings students, Dunbar Middle School theatre students, a Heritage High School string quartet, and the E. C. Glass jazz band.
This event is free and open to the public.
Lynchburg City Schools is also proud to release the State of LCS 2023 document, an annual report looking back on the 2022-23 school year. The report features updates from the previous school year at LCS and shares staff and student successes, program highlights, and various data.
