E. C. Glass High School welcomed Jeff McCall as their new head wrestling coach and Nathan Brungot as their new head swim coach this month. The two physical education teachers bring a wealth of coaching experience from across the division and beyond.
“We are very excited to have Coach McCall and Coach Brungot on our athletic staff. I look forward to seeing the wrestling and swim programs continue to grow under their leadership,” said school athletic director Elizabeth Masencup.
An E. C. Glass alum and Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) teacher of four years, McCall has a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Radford University. He’s coached wrestling at Linkhorne Middle School for two years and football for four. He’s also spent the last three years coaching junior varsity lacrosse at E. C. Glass.
Though his coaching career spans multiple sports, wrestling was his first love. As an LCS student, McCall wrestled under coach Fred Stanbery for six years, winning three conference titles and enjoying one undefeated season. He returns eager to lead the program that shaped him to victory.
“E. C. Glass wrestling is very special to me. My goal is to build the type of program that I was a part of and give the wrestlers the same positive experience that I had,” McCall said.
Though originally from Williamsburg, Brungot is no stranger to Lynchburg. He graduated from the University of Lynchburg with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He’s been the head junior varsity and assistant varsity boys lacrosse coach at E. C. Glass for four years and the head golf coach for two. In Williamsburg, he coached swim, lacrosse, and women’s basketball.
Swimming holds a special place in Brungot’s heart. He spent his childhood summers with the swim team at his local pool, then became a head summer swim coach after high school.
“My vision for this coming year is not only to excel in our competitions, but also to empower our student-athletes to become confident, disciplined, and responsible individuals in and out of the pool,” Brungot said. “I am excited to step into a program that’s had great success, and I hope to continue that throughout the coming years.”
