The Heritage High School Band has been named a Commonwealth of Virginia Honor Band for the 2015-2016 school year by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association. This award recognizes Superior achievement in all areas of the band program. In order to be considered for the award, the band must have received a Superior rating at each of the two events sponsored by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association. The events associated are the State Marching Band Assessment, which was held in October and the District VI Concert Band Assessment which was in March. The band not only was awarded a Superior rating at both Assessments, but Superior ratings from all of the judges associated with both events for their outstanding performances.
This award is the twelfth time the Heritage High School Band has been recognized and the eighth time in the past ten years. “I am very proud of the efforts of all of the students and parents of our program. They have worked hard to have a tremendous year on the field and in the classroom. We are very appreciative of the wonderful support of our administrative team and community supporters, which helps in making a recognition like this possible. This award brings much recognition to our school and school district from the band community,” said Director of Bands Mike Hand. “Simply stated, it recognizes the Heritage High School Band program as one of the best.”
