Perrymont Elementary School Principal Karen Nelson has been selected by Lynchburg College to receive the J. Edward Petty Outstanding Graduate Alumni Award.
According to a letter sent by Jan Stennette, Dean of the LC School of Education, “Each year the faculty of the School of Education chooses an alumnus who exemplifies the outstanding characteristics of Dr. J. Edward Petty who devoted his career to the education of others.” This year, the faculty chose Mrs. Nelson in a unanimous vote.
“Mrs. Nelson is very deserving of this recognition,” said Superintendent Scott Brabrand. “She has been a strong instructional leader and a tireless advocate for her students, her school and the Perrymont community.”
Mrs. Nelson will be presented with the award during Lynchburg College’s Teacher Induction Ceremony on May 16th at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony is held for current seniors who have met all the requirements to be fully licensed and is a fitting time to honor the award recipient.
