Fourteen E. C. Glass High School students participated in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Spring Conference at Longwood University in March, garnering eight first-place, four-second place and three third-place awards in regional level competition.
“It was an intense competition with a lot of impressive students from all over the area,” said Korian Hunt, an ECG junior who won two first-place titles himself. “We all put a lot of work into preparing for this event, and I think it paid off,” he said.
According to FBLA faculty advisor Mary Alvis, FBLA is a dynamic organization run by students, for students. “The mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs,” Alvis said. “This ECG chapter has an incredible amount of talent and energy as we saw clearly demonstrated today. It’s all about motivation and dedication.”
“The competition involves quite a few disciplines and specialties,” Hunt said. “You really have to grasp a broad range of knowledge to be competitive.”
