Cadets from E. C. Glass High School's Air Force Junior ROTC Precision Drill Team placed first overall in the Fourth Annual C.D. Hylton High School Competitive Military Drill Competition in November.
E. C. Glass placed first in three of the six categories, second in two, and third in another. "It was a great competition and we were fortunate enough to perform well, among very polished teams,” said team commander, Cadet Lt. Col Will Johnston. “Everyone on the team was focused, and they all executed our routines with precision."
E. C. Glass cadet Nina Bradley took second place in the "knockout" competition out of more than 165 cadets from the seven schools competing. "I really enjoyed the chance to march with other cadets from other schools. They were all really good at what they do, so to be in the final four was pretty intimidating," Bradley said.
C. D. Hylton High School Air Force JROTC Instructor Master Sgt. Lamont Eubanks hosted the event and offered high praise for the cadets. "E.C. Glass certainly brings a high standard of excellence to precision drill and ceremony, so we were pleased they were able to come over and compete," he said.
E. C. Glass coach Senior Master Sgt. Donald Dougherty calls the armed exhibition category possibly the most demanding of the events. "The ECG cadets have refined their armed expo routine to the point of being competitive on a national level, which is no small task," Dougherty said. "It’s an honor to work with these young men and women who are entirely dedicated to practicing and honing their skills. But, it’s a major team effort. Without the support of parents, other teachers, administrators, and schools staffs, none of this would be possible."
