A combination from the works of Shakespeare, the Beach Boys and a foul monster with huge tentacles will take stage at Heritage High School as Pioneer Theatre presents, "Return to the Forbidden Planet."
This musical that’s all for laughs, incorporates Shakespeare’s storyline from “The Tempest” with a 1958 sci-fi movie, “Forbidden Planet.”
The plot follows the crew of a routine survey flight under the command of Captain Tempest. After takeoff, the captain argues with the ship’s new female science officer about the importance of men and women on earth. During their argument, the ship gets caught in a meteor shower. The officer suggests that they use the shuttle craft and abandon ship, but the captain insists on flying through the storm.
The musical is set on a spaceship and accompanied by live professional musicians playing 1960s rock and roll on guitar, drums and keyboard. Some of the music featured will include the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations,” “Why Must I be a Teenager in Love,” and “Wipeout.”
The feature will be enhanced by projected images and a pre-recorded narration by WSET broadcaster Len Stevens.
