Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) is looking to bring in new and experienced math teachers into its classrooms this upcoming school year with its recently launched talent recruitment incentive program. The recruitment incentive, which will be offered through August 2023 or until current vacant positions are filled, is aimed at middle and high school math teachers.
“We want to attract top talent here at Lynchburg City Schools,” said Dr. Reid Wodicka, Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Strategic Planning.
“Our students deserve the best teachers, and this incentive will allow us to fill much needed positions at the middle and high school levels.”
LCS is offering up to $10,000 per year for the next two years to newly signed middle and high school math teachers. Experienced professionals with at least five years of successful experience teaching math at the secondary level will receive $10,000 per year the next two years. Emerging professionals with one to five years of experience will receive $7,500 per year the next two years. New professionals will receive $5,000 per year the next two years. Those participating in the incentive will agree to provide a four-year commitment to LCS.
Maria Jaeger, Instructional Supervisor and former math teacher with LCS, knows just how crucial math instruction is for students. “Math not only helps students develop necessary critical thinking skills, it provides them with opportunities to practice analyzing data and information in order to become problem solvers,” she said.
“Our goal is to attract and retain math teachers in our schools so that students receive the quality math instruction they deserve.”
