Dear LCS community,
We have some highlights to share with you from our Special School Board Meeting on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.
As part of the LCS Community Update, Superintendent Dr. Edwards thanked Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin for his visit. He attended the E. C. Glass JV basketball scrimmage on Friday, November 19, 2021.
Deputy Superintendent Amy Pugh provided the board with an update on LCS’ participation with Virginia School Screening Testing for Assurance Program (ViSSTA). 130 staff and students have consented to the asymptomatic random COVID-19 testing. Testing will begin December 2, 2021 at both E. C. Glass and Heritage high schools. Deputy Superintendent Pugh also provided an update on the vaccination inquiry survey for children ages 5-11. There were 330 responses to the survey in which 138 said yes and 112 said no for children receiving the vaccination. LCS will be offering vaccinations for those students with parental consent, and parents/guardians will be required to be present when the vaccination is given.
Superintendent Dr. Edwards thanked the community for attending the second Community Conversations that was held on November 22, 2021. The community provided great feedback on academic success. The next Community Conversations will be held January 24, 2022 at Jefferson Park Center (405 York Street) at 6:00 p.m. The community is encouraged to come out to learn more about the division and to provide feedback.
On Tuesday, December 14, 2021 there will be a public budget hearing in the Board Room of the School Administration Building. The purpose of this hearing is to give LCS teachers, staff, students, parents/guardians, and members of the Lynchburg community an opportunity to provide input as we develop the budget for the 2022-23 school year. We encourage those who are unable to attend in person to share comments using this form. The second budget hearing will be held in March 2022.
See more about the discussions, actions, and information by viewing the 11-23-2021 School Board Meeting on the LCS YouTube channel and the updated documents on the 11-23-2021 Agenda.
The next School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 7th, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the School Administration Building. On December 14th at 5:00 p.m., there will be a public budget hearing followed by the School Board Work Session.
Thank you for supporting our LCS mission: Every Child, By Name and By Need, to Graduation!
