Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) is pleased to recognize E. C. Glass senior Dylan Myaing as the recipient of this year’s LCS Excellence in Science Scholarship. Dylan was recognized during the March 16, 2021 school board public hearing.

Dylan attends the Central Virginia Governor’s School for Science and Technology each morning, then returns to his base school of E. C. Glass High School, where he takes three Advanced Placement courses each afternoon, as well as orchestra and is a member of the cross country team.

At the Central Virginia Governor's School for Science and Technology, Dylan conducted a research project analyzing the effect that different macronutrients have on the regeneration of dugesia tigrina (a species of flatworm) that included a research paper that placed in state and regional competitions. He is also currently studying anatomy and physiology at Central Virginia Governor’s School.

Dylan has a passion for medicine and has pursued educational opportunities outside of school to further medical knowledge, including an internship with a physical therapist and enrollment in summer medical programs, which allowed for the study of different fields of medicine.

During college, Dylan plans on conducting a research project to analyze the effect of exercise on the health of an individual, focusing on the nuanced differences between varying age groups. After undergraduate studies are complete, he plans to pursue further education to obtain a doctorate either in physical therapy or some field of sports medicine.

In 2020, Dylan placed 2nd in the Zoology category at the Central Virginia Regional Science Fair, presented his research project at the National Consortium of Secondary STEM Schools Symposium, and received an honorable mention at the Virginia Junior Science Academy in Health and Medicine.
