In April of 2014, leaders from across the city gathered for a ceremony on the campus of Heritage High School. On this day, members of the Lynchburg City School Board, the Lynchburg City Council, the Heritage High School Task Force, and the Lynchburg community celebrated the official groundbreaking of a new, 21st Century building to serve the students and staff of Heritage.
Phase One started in April of 2014, and included the new baseball and softball fields, as well as a field house and parking. This phase was completed in November of 2014 and ready in time for the spring sports season.
Phase Two, which started in June of 2014, included the faculty parking, the bus loop, and most noticeably, the construction of the new 266,000 square-foot building facing Timberlake Road. This new building was open and ready for students, faculty, and staff on the first day of the 2016-2017 school year. Students were pleased to have more natural light in the classrooms, wider hallways, and of course, fewer levels to have to travel through compared to the previous five-floor building.
Phase Three, which began June 2016 and was completed in November 2017, was highlighted by the new football field, track, eight new tennis courts, and a student parking lot holding 290 spots. The student parking lot was finished just in time for the students on the first day of the new school year.
