This spring, the students in the 3rd-grade Gifted Opportunity Center at R. S. Payne Elementary School took part in an exciting hands-on economics program. In this real world simulation, students worked together in their companies to design, manufacture, market, and sell a product as they learned what it takes to start and run a business. Students participated in all aspects of the business process including incorporating their companies with the state, selling shares of their company to a venture capitalist to raise money, tracking all corporate finances, and then selling their products at Market Day. Because of all of the hard work, the companies were able to donate $273.28 to the Lynchburg Humane Society.
