This year the Education Foundation awarded 49 grants for innovative programs and projects designed by LCS teachers to enhance the educational environment for students. In May, at the 21st Annual Classroom Innovation Grants Awards program, teachers put their projects on display for administrators, sponsors and guests.
Grants were awarded for projects of all levels, from pre-K through high school, and guests were able to see how these projects worked. Among the displays, guests saw how Classroom Innovation Grants helped students build their laboratory skills with “Energy in Food (Calorimetry) and Showing Reactions through Paint Pigments” at E.C. Glass High School; how “Global Navigation” provides discovery-based learning to our Linkhorne Middle School students; and how our pre-K teachers at R.S. Payne are cultivating Lynchburg’s next “Top Chef” through “Reading Recipes.”
The Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation, Inc. has awarded more than 389 corporate-sponsored teacher grants since initiating the program more than 21 years ago. More than $408,000 in grant funds has allowed teachers, counselors and administrators the opportunity to implement a broad range of creative and innovative ideas into our classrooms and schools. This year the Foundation funded grants totaling $69,346.50.
