They were one of the smallest teams to compete in the state competition but the eight Lynchburg City School students that went to the state marketing/ DECA competition the weekend of March 13, 2010 represented the division well. The event was held in Norfolk at the Marriott and Sheraton Waterside conference centers. More than 4,000 students competed. Sixty-five students competed in each category. Three LCS students won second place. Bobby Jones received second place in sports and entertainment marketing, Marlon Stevenson won second in retail management and Natasha Chowdry brought home second in marketing management. Kenia Schweikart, Stephanie Lin, and Adam Rose were recognized for being one of the top five exam scores in their respective events.
Jones, Stevenson and Chowdry will go on to compete in the International Career Development Conference on April 24-27, 2010 in Louisville, Kentucky. Kina Schweikart has been invited to attend the Senior Manangement Institute, as the representative for the central region of Virginia DECA.
